Canine fresh frozen plasma has a one-year shelf life. At expiration it can be used as frozen plasma with up to four additional years shelf life.

    Canine frozen plasma has a 5-year shelf life. Clotting factors V, VIII and vWF are not significant in frozen plasma.

    Red blood cells (RBCs) have up to a 42-day shelf life. Each 240 mL of RBCs is the equivalent in volume to the amount of RBCs in 500 mL of whole blood. There is an additional 100 mL of red cell preservative solution for every 240 mL of RBCs. Further dilution to improve flow is not necessary.
